No More “Sitting Ducks”
By now you may have heard tragic news of the attack on an isolated U.S. base in a remote region of Afghanistan. There has been an internal debate raging within the military for years about the wisdom of these isolated outposts, which make soldiers stationed in them “sitting ducks.” There is no debate that one wave of the weekend attack came from a nearby mosque and from a direction that our troops did not expect.
Five months ago, and barely three months into his term, our new commander-in-chief took command of the war in Afghanistan. He dismissed the general in charge, General David McKiernan, and replaced him with Lt. General Stanley McChrystal, a former Green Beret and counterterrorism expert. It was all part of “hope and change.”
The White House hoped that the change in leadership would produce a change in strategy that would change the course of the war. At the same time, the White House announced that avoiding civilian casualties was a top priority. In order to win hearts, mosques became off limits. The new policy would have us fighting a politically correct war, and it warmed the hearts of enemies.
That policy invited the Islamofascists to stage attacks from mosques – just as they did this weekend with deadly effect. Islamic extremists all over the world have used mosques as military depots. Even the most cursory online search will reveal this “tried and true” tactic from Iraq to ambulances and hospitals being exploited in attacks against Israel.
The notion that we are losing the “battle for hearts and minds” because mosques are sometimes bombed is absurd because the enemy routinely violates the “rules of Islam” by launching attacks from mosques! Why are we allowing an enemy so vicious that it turns its own children into homicide bombs to dictate the rules of war?
And what is the new strategy that Obama’s general has recommended? Among other things, General Stanley McChrystal is reportedly asking for reinforcements – tens of thousands of additional troops – without which we risk defeat and failure. In the fight between McChrystal and the White House, we stand with Gen. McChrystal in the belief that our troops should be given what they need to succeed. That includes a serious, non-politically correct strategy for aggressively fighting and winning this war.
“A Moment Of Truth”
Sunday, Washington Post columnist David Broder wrote, “Barack Obama has reached the moment of truth for answering the persistent question about his core beliefs and political priorities. The coming votes in the House and Senate on his signature health-care reform effort will tell us more about the president than anything so far in his White House tenure.” He also suggested that the effort will “expose his core values.” The same day, the Chicago Tribune reported that the Obama White House has quietly launched a full-court press for the public option.
We have gotten a number of questions about the public option. Let me summarize it for you: The public option is a gigantic leap toward socialism and Big Government control over your life. The public option is the vehicle liberal Democrats will use to achieve socialized single-payer medicine in America. Barney Frank admits it. The radical Left knows it. And Barack Obama wants it.
Obama’s push for the public option, his push to take us down the path toward socialized medicine while our generals are requesting reinforcements, clearly exposes his “core values.”

Speaking Of “Core Values”
Yesterday, Rep. Steve King (R-IA), who has been endorsed and strongly supported by this political action committee, called on Obama “Safe School Czar” Kevin Jennings to resign or be fired. For more information on Jennings click here and here.
In the past, we have warned that efforts to redefine marriage would inevitably lead us to the legalization of polygamy. After all, if marriage is not limited to one man and one woman, what is the legal justification for limiting it to just two people? Well, just in case there is any confusion about Obama’s “core values,” consider the nomination of Chai Feldblum.
Last month, Obama nominated Georgetown University Law Center Professor Chai R. Feldblum to be a commissioner on the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). In announcing the nomination, the White House highlighted Feldblum’s work as an ACLU lawyer and noted that she “has also worked on advancing lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights and has been a leading expert on the Employment Nondiscrimination Act.”
In fact, Professor Feldblum is so “progressive” that in 2006 she signed onto a manifesto entitled “Beyond Marriage.” Among other things, this radical statement advocated, “Legal recognition for a wide range of relationships, households and families – regardless of kinship or conjugal status,” including “Households in which there is more than one conjugal partner.” In other words, Feldblum is an advocate of polygamy.
These appointments are relevant because “personnel is policy.” There should be no doubt in anyone’s mind how and why Jennings and Feldblum got their appointments. Nor should there be any doubt about the agendas and “core values” they will advance in Barack Obama’s Administration.
Defending Our Values
I am in Michigan today speaking up for the right to life. I am honored to be the keynote speaker at the Lakeshore Pregnancy Center’s annual fall banquet. In addition, we continue to receive tremendous feedback on my speech at the Values Voter Summit last month. If you were unable to attend, please click here to watch my remarks online. Thank you.
